Well when it rains it really pours... This post is going to sound silly to some, I know that, but it isnt to us. For those of you that know our family we have a cat named Target that is like a son to us. We call him Target because he has a beige bullseye on either side of his body. He is huge! Friends like to call him a bobcat he is so big! Eva just loves Target. She calls him Tider. She lays on him. Pulls his tail. Picks him up by the neck. He never once has snapped at her.

Well yesterday Target was howling underneath our bed. I thought he was mad. Today we found him pretty lethargic laying in the game room. We brought him into our closet so Eva wouldnt mess with him. He didnt move all day and he began shaking so I took him to the vet. The Doctor rushed him back and said his bladder was very enlarged. He was going to keep him for a while. The Doctor called tonight and said he died of kidney failure........the very illness Preston has been fighting.......

I know this may sound ridiculous but I believe in my heart that Target took this burden from Preston. It is just crazy that my cat dies of the same illness my son has been battling just days after Preston begins getting better. We will always miss you Target....

On a happier note...

All of the babies are doing fabulous! Preston continues to amaze the doctors and is now weighing in at 3 pounds 3 ounces!! They did an analysis on his urine and it looks like he has fought the yeast that was hurting his kidneys. He looks amazing! Little Madelyn has been extubated and is on CPAP now!!!! She is doing so great and we see that amazing progress as one step closer to coming home! She weighs 2 pounds 4 ounces. They will try to extubate Parker tomorrow! He has been doing very well and they are hoping to see him do well on the CPAP. He currently weighs 2 pounds 8 ounces. Dahlia is cruising right along and she is getting a little bit of a supplement so she can start gaining more weight. She currently is at 2 pounds 10 ounces. This week has been very good and we have enjoyed the breather from last week! We hope it will get easier and easier!

We are so humbled...

We are so very humbled at all of the friends, family, and strangers that have said such sweet kind words also for all of those that have fasted and prayed for our sweet little children. We are so humbled to hear of all the sweet perfect little children that have rallied their friends and family members to pray for our situation. What a great example they are to us.

Little Preston is still fighting for his life. But I will be the first to tell you, the Lord has heard all of yours and our prayers. The day after my post, Preston was peeing diapers that you could literally ring out!!! What a miracle that was to see! The day of my post, Preston was peeing at a rate of 10. The day after my post, his rate increased to 100!!!!!!! Yesterday, his peeing slowed some, but he had not gained to much weight.

Today we got word that his urine output has increased from 1 ml to 2.5 ml (the doctor wants to see it at 3ml so he is almost there. The doctors are contemplating doing the same heart surgery Madelyn and Parker just had, on our little Preston within the next 24 hours. There will be a team of doctors discussing this as it could easily put way to much stress on his compromised body. But, there is some talk of it improving his situation.

After a very emotional and frusterating visit late last night,my mother spoke with the doctor (She is a nurse) and got the scoop on his condition. She then explained it to Trever and I and we finally understand all that is going on.

During the first two weeks of life, medicine can be given to close a PDA (an open artery in the heart). First they gave Preston Indocine but it did not work. So then they tried Ibuprofen, a different kind of medicine. The side affect of this medicine was a possibility of damage to the kidneys. After this medicine was administered, he started to get a little puffy and they found that he has Acute Tubuler Necrosis. Acute= Now, Tubuler= Tubes, Necroses= Death of tissue. This was found to be in the kidneys. So the tubes in his kidneys were dying. Then, the doctors did a urine culture, and found yeast. So they believe yeast is attacking his kidneys and causing a Urinary Tract Infection as well. They have administered antibiotics to fight this as well. On top of this, the doctors administered an antibiotic called Vancomycin to make sure the MRSA does not spread into the blood. So many scary things are happening inside of his body right now!

So at this point, our goals are:
1. Kill the yeast with antibiotics so the kidneys can recover and begin working properly.
2. Ventilator settings will get better as the fluid is excreted through his urine.
3. Swelling will go down.

So, we still have a few days to weeks before we visibly see him go back down to size. We are hoping he will be able to fight this and survive. We know with the help of all of your prayers, anything can happen. He definetly has alot of work ahead of him. We love you so much Preston, You are our little fighter!!

Dear Heavenly Father...Please lighten this burden.....

Dahlia

Madelyn

Parker

Preston

My heart is so broken right now for my little baby Preston. Yes, the above 2 pictures are pictures of my little sweet Preston. He should be the same size as the other 3. Right now he is in kidney failure. His little kidneys are very sick and he is retaining tons of fluid. The doctors say it is a cause for big concern. In fact, if his kidneys do not begin to work correctly again very soon, he will pass away in 3 to 4 weeks maximum. It kills me to think that if he doesnt start peeing soon, he will just keep ballooning until his other organs shut down. He currently weighs 3 pounds 8 ounces. He probably has one full pound of fluid trapped inside of his body! Our next biggest baby is only 2 pounds 6 ounces.

This pain and heartache is terrible. To think that I may not be able to raise this beautiful baby kills me inside. What I would give to still have him safe inside of me still. I know I have asked for so many prayers, but if you could please take a moment to say one especially for his tiny body, my family would be so greatful...

To make matters worse, Madelyn and Parker went into heart surgery last night to fix their PDAs. It was a very emotionally tough day. The surgery's went well and both of the babies are still under anesthesia. They should be waking up today. We hope better days are coming very very soon.....

Another Scary Update...and Nursery Pics for Fun!

Well it has been a pretty scary week! Both Madelyn and Preston have MRSA which is a Staph Infection. It is a really scary infection because it is extremely resistant to antibiotics and if it enters into the bloodstream it will probably be fatal. It is really upsetting because MRSA is not a bacteria the body just creates, it was actually given to them by someone or something. Also, baby Madelyn is fighting pneumonia as well along with Dahlia and Parker! Amazingly, the babies are all doing so well on their ventilator settings and seem to be relatively unaffected by these mean bacterias!

Preston's kidney function hasnt been to well but it is getting better. This morning they did an ultrasound on his kidneys to make sure they looked OK, and they did. The only thing they saw wrong was a narrowing of a vein going into the kidney so they were going to do another scan to check on that!

The doctors are hoping to be able to wean them off of the ventilators in the next couple of weeks. Their heart murmurs have been coming and going which could mean their PDAs are still there (where a valve in the heart isnt completely closed). The doctors dont seem too concerned at this point.

Please keep us in your prayers. Especially so that this MSRA does not spread into the blood stream! We love you all!

Sorry some of these pics are so blurry and dark!

Surprise!

Walking into our surprise party
Singing Happy Birthday to Trever

The cake

Eva the Diva

Parker

Preston

Dahlia

Madelyn

Our little quadruplet munchkins are almost 3 weeks old already! I cannot believe how fast time has gone by. I want them to be home so bad so that I can love on them and take care of them! It has been good for my body to heal though. I feel almost 100%! I am able to cook, clean, and be the mommy and wife I have not been able to be for the last 4 months. Bedrest is tough let me tell ya. Allthough I have a feeling in just a little while I will be longing for it again lol!!

Well overall the babies are doing well! Madelyn's incident is almost completely better now. All of the babies are growing quickly! You wont believe this but we actually have a little blondie! Yes it is true! I cannot believe it either. Trever always said we would have a blonde haired baby and I thought that was completely ridiculous! Well little Preston, daddy's clone, has blonde eyelashes and extremely golden light brown hair! He is gorgeous! Madelyn is mommy's little clone. She has dark dark hair and lots of it!!! Dahlia used to look like Parker but now she is starting to resemble Preston more. Probably because they are about the same size! I have a feeling she is going to be my snuggle bug. She just loves when mommy is near. Parker is my honey. He is still pretty small and always looks so sweet!

Well both Dahlia and Parker have pneumonia. It sounds really scary, and is, but the doctor's say it is a very mild case and they have caught it early enough so that it has not really affected them too much. Right now they have an infection control doctor that has implemented some precautions so that we do not give this extremely contagious condition to Preston and Madelyn. We know alot of you want to come visit the babies but we hope everyone understands that we are limiting the amount of people visiting so that we eliminate any chance of spreading this condition.

Eva has done so well! We try to see the babies during her nap and when she goes to bed so that she wont feel like we are always leaving her.. She definetly knows things have changed especially since mommy doesnt have her "ball" any more! I just love that pic above of her! So cute!

Let me just say we have some of the most amazing friends in the whole world! Tuesday night some of our friends threw us a surprise congratulations party for the babies/ birthday party for Trever! Everyone brought diapers and wipes! It really has been so so so wonderful to have so many caring people around us! I cannot believe how many great people there are out in this world!!! We love you all and thank you to everyone who has helped us! It means so much!

The babies current weights are:

Preston- 2 pounds 7 ounces

Dahlia- 2 pounds 2 ounces

Parker- 1 pound 15 ounces

Madelyn- 1 pound 12 ounces

They are all 12 inches!

To close, I wanted to give a special shout out to Amy- Jo Sather and her husband! I wanted Amy-Jo to know that she is doing so well and I am so proud of her! Keep baking those babies!

We had a scare but all is well now....

Big Sister Eva

Daddy Kangaroo Caring Parker

Mommy Kangaroo caring Dahlia

The other night we had quite a scare with Madelyn! We were picking up my mom from the airport and we were going to visit the babies after that. We were on the way to the hospital and Dr. Reddy (the babies' doctor) called my phone. She told me that Madelyn had a pretty bad episode. There were some triplets being born and Dr. Reddy got a call from Madelyn's nurse to come immediately. Madelyn's heart rate dropped into the 50's and she had blood pooling in the back of her throat! We didnt know if it was from her lungs but that was the doctor's guess. I was freaking out!!! We arrived at the hospital pretty much right at the point when the doctor was done telling me what happened. We rushed up to the NICU to find Madelyn not doing so hot. She was on 100% oxygen and the doctor was at her bedside. She explained the situation and Trever and I were losing it. Dr. Reddy told us that she might die. So we stayed at the hospital for a long time that night. While we were there, Madelyn became stable and went all the way down to 30% oxygen. She started looking better but right before we left her blood came back positive for an infection! We were devastated. We wouldnt know the results of what kind of infection it was for 2 more days. We were exhausted both physically and emotionally. We went home and slept with all of our phones within arms reach. Needless to say we didnt get much sleep that night!

That was Wednesday and since then things have been going alot better! The results from Madelyn's blood test came back negative for any infection so that was really really great! The doctors have decided that there was probably some skin that had attatched to her oxygen tube and while the nurse was changing her diaper, it probably made it bleed. That was the best case scenario! We are so relieved that it looks minor!

Everyone else is doing well. All the children had a PDA (patent ductis arteriosis). This is pretty common in micro preemies. It is where the valve that connects the two chambers of the heart doesnt fully close. (It usually closes a couple of hours after birth in full term babies) So Dahlia, Parker and Preston were taking Indocin ( a medication to close this valve). It closed in all of the babies so we are really glad the medication did the trick and they didnt have to go into surgery!

All of the babies have been gaining weight and Preston has now surpassed 2 pounds!!! Most of the babies are on antibiotics because their white blood cell counts are high. Sometimes this can be indicative of an infection so we are being extra careful....

They all can open their eyes and they love to do so when we are there! We got to kangaroo care Parker and Dahlia the other day for an hour. This is where we get to hold the babies skin to skin on our chest for an hour (at least). It was really amazing and both of the babies loved it! We are hoping to be able to do this with the other two very very soon!

Well I think that is the update for now! Thanks again for all of the prayers!!!
