What an amazing year it has been with our sweet Quaddies! December 30th they turned 4! It was a day of remembering all that my sweet babies had been through. It takes me back to that crazy day 4 years ago when I delivered them at 25 weeks and had convinced myself none of them had made it through the delivery. I will never forget waking up after anesthesia and hearing from my husband that they were all alive and seeing pictures of them on his phone for the very first time. I was in shock that they were all hanging on and I could not wait to meet them.
I will never forget seeing them for the very first time. Their little teeny tiny bodies. Skin transparent and eyes still fused shut. Seeming so lifeless and machines doing all the work for them. I will never forget the first time I got to kiss them. Yes it was 2 weeks later when I was talking to one of their nurses Rayanne, nearly in tears because I had not yet kissed my precious babies. Her jaw fell as she informed me that the isolette tops could easily be lifted with a touch of a button. I will never forget it when the isolette cover was raised and I was allowed to kiss my sweet babies for the very first time...
I look back on those days and I will never forget the Heavenly aura of that Nicu sweet. I will never forget the very thick feeling of a crowded room when hardly anybody was there. There is no doubt in my mind that our Nicu sweet was a little bit of heaven on Earth as I felt the presence of our family members that had passed. More miracles happened in that NICU sweet than I had ever seen in my entire life. From Preston's kidney failure to pneumonia to infections to surgeries, I simply do not know how my babies beat the odds and made it through that time!
I will not say that it has been an easy four years, but it has been a time of love, growth and learning. At times it is difficult to raise 6 children under the age of 5 because we don't have access to many people that have experienced parenting under this circumstance. Advice can be hard to find. Trever and I have become such a great team in taking care of our beautiful children and we seem to figure this out a little more everyday :)
I must say that we are so very grateful for our family members! We truly could not be where we are today without their love, help, sacrifices, understanding, patience and advice. It truly has taken a village to raise these children and we are so grateful for all they have done for us! I also need to thank my sweet friends who have loved our children and have supported Trever and I through our hard times. We are grateful for all of you!
May the year 2013 bring our sweet children lots of joy! We cannot wait to see just how much our quaddies grow as little sweet 4 year olds :)
