Our Sweet Quads are 4!

What an amazing year it has been with our sweet Quaddies! December 30th they turned 4! It was a day of remembering all that my sweet babies had been through. It takes me back to that crazy day 4 years ago when I delivered them at 25 weeks and had convinced myself none of them had made it through the delivery. I will never forget waking up after anesthesia and hearing from my husband that they were all alive and seeing pictures of them on his phone for the very first time. I was in shock that they were all hanging on and I could not wait to meet them.

I will never forget seeing them for the very first time. Their little teeny tiny bodies. Skin transparent and eyes still fused shut. Seeming so lifeless and machines doing all the work for them. I will never forget the first time I got to kiss them. Yes it was 2 weeks later when I was talking to one of their nurses Rayanne, nearly in tears because I had not yet kissed my precious babies. Her jaw fell as she informed me that the isolette tops could easily be lifted with a touch of a button. I will never forget it when the isolette cover was raised and I was allowed to kiss my sweet babies for the very first time...

I look back on those days and I will never forget the Heavenly aura of that Nicu sweet. I will never forget the very thick feeling of a crowded room when hardly anybody was there. There is no doubt in my mind that our Nicu sweet was a little bit of heaven on Earth as I felt the presence of our family members that had passed. More miracles happened in that NICU sweet than I had ever seen in my entire life. From Preston's kidney failure to pneumonia to infections to surgeries, I simply do not know how my babies beat the odds and made it through that time!

I will not say that it has been an easy four years, but it has been a time of love, growth and learning. At times it is difficult to raise 6 children under the age of 5 because we don't have access to many people that have experienced parenting under this circumstance. Advice can be hard to find. Trever and I have become such a great team in taking care of our beautiful children and we seem to figure this out a little more everyday :)

I must say that we are so very grateful for our family members! We truly could not be where we are today without their love, help, sacrifices, understanding, patience and advice. It truly has taken a village to raise these children and we are so grateful for all they have done for us! I also need to thank my sweet friends who have loved our children and have supported Trever and I through our hard times. We are grateful for all of you!

May the year 2013 bring our sweet children lots of joy! We cannot wait to see just how much our quaddies grow as little sweet 4 year olds :)

Dahlia Heart Surgery- Update

Our sweet Dahlia has an Atrial Septal Defect. In English, she has hole in her Atrial wall within her heart. Last year there was a team of 13 cardiologists that had a meeting to review her case and they all voted that she should get open heart surgery. My grandfather in law had just passed away due to heart related complications and we were not ready and also did not feel good about this surgery. At that time, we met with the Pediatric Surgeon and we did not like him at all. We decided to "gamble" and try to wait until she was older to get the catheter surgery to close this hole rather than have her undergo a very serious open heart surgery with a surgeon we didnt even like.

Well, Thursday we went in for another visit to her cardiologist. Her hole was still the same size but he was happy that she had been growing. The hole can remain the same size but as Dahlia grows, so does her heart and her atrial wall grows too. He gave us the wonderful news that he feels comfortable in trying the catheter surgery now!!! We are soooo excited as this means we are looking at September to have her hole closed! There is very very little recovery time with this catheter surgery. She will most likely come home within 24 hours! There are no restrictions and she can pretty much resume her fun little active life. We feel soooo relieved as we can finally close that chapter in our life, no pun intended. We have worried so much about our sweet little girl and we are looking forward to her being able to do the same things as her siblings without getting as tired as she does now. We are very interested to see if she will grow too! (Liana is 1 and she weighs more than Dahlia!!)

Now, the Doctor said that he may get into the surgery and find that he may not be able to complete it. The device that he will be placing is kinda like a oreo. Think of the cream of the oreo filling Dahlia's hole in her heart. The wafers on the outside will hug the walls on either side of the heart. If he gets in there and finds that there is not enough room to place the device, he will simply take it out. As far as the measurements go, he thinks he should have plenty of room but it is hard to know exactly until he gets into surgery. If this happens, she will get to go home that same day and we will try again next year. If it is successful, this device will stay in her little heart forever. Her own skin will grow over the device and she will never know its there :)

We will definetly keep yall posted when we know a date for surgery! Thanks for all your prayers for our sweet little Dahlia Bear!

Liana is One!!!

I cannot believe it. Tears are coming already, just as I sit here typing. This has been the best year of my life. Liana has brought the most amazing abundance of love to our family. She has every last one of us wrapped around her chunky little fingers. She is sassy, independent, cuddly, full of life, smart, explorative, silly and perfect in every way imaginable!
Here are some of our Princesses stats right now!
Weight= a whopping 25 pounds
(yep that is exactly the same as her 3 year old big sister Dahlia)
Walking= 11.5 months
Food Likes= Green Beans, Popcorn, Fruit squeezes and crackers
Food Dislikes= Cant you tell by those thighs there is nothing in this category ;)
Quirks= See that pic above where it looks like she is saying "oooooooooo" yep that is her latest quirk. It is so cute, she says it when she sees her daddy after work or her best friend Mimmie
What puts her in a Good Mood- soft minky blankies, her bday present Minnie Mouse because the ears are soft, and her momma (had to throw that in there)
What puts her in a Bad Mood- When her siblings are asleep or not around. She cannot stand to be alone. Also, she hates when we change her diaper or do her hair.
We just love this little blessing soooooo much! We made such a good decision to have a 6th child! She has made us all so much better and has brought so much more love, fun and silliness to our home!
We love you Liana and Happy First Birthday!!!
